Black Mold Resistant Coating*

Description

IAQ 6500 is a black, mold-resistant* coating formulated with a fungistatic agent to inhibit mold growth* on the dry coating surface. This durable, flexible, and permeable 100% acrylic, water-based semi-gloss coating is designed to withstand moist, humid conditions commonly found in mold-prone environments. IAQ 6500 is suitable for use on wood, plaster, wallboard, sheetrock, concrete, masonry block, primed metal, and galvanized metal.

Surface Preparation

  • Ensure surfaces are clean and free of dust, mildew, mold, dirt, grease, loose paint, oil, glue size, calcimine, wax, soap, and other contaminants.

  • Remove mold stains using Advanced Peroxide Cleaner or EPA-registered antimicrobial disinfectants such as IAQ 2000, IAQ 2500, ShockWave, or ShockWave RTU.

  • Patch surface irregularities with vinyl patching paste or an appropriate compound.

  • IAQ 6500 is self-priming over bare sheetrock, composition board, ceiling tile, and concrete.

Substrate Prep:

  • Wallboard, Sheetrock, Gypsum Board: Sand joint cement smooth without abrading paper.

  • Ferrous Metal: Clean and prime with IAQ 4000 rust inhibiting direct-to-metal primer.

  • Wood: Seal knots and stains with IAQ 5000 stain-blocking primer.

  • Masonry Block: Apply one coat of IAQ 3000 block filler for denser surfaces.


Application Tools

  • Brush: Synthetic, nylon, or polyester bristle

  • Roller: Synthetic fiber, 3/8” nap or longer

  • Spray: Airless spray; Pressure 1500–3000 PSI, Tips .015–.023


Application Instructions

  • Ready to use; can be thinned sparingly with water (up to ½ pint per gallon) if needed for application consistency.

  • Apply generously and uniformly by brush, roller, or airless spray.

  • One coat generally sufficient; porous surfaces may require two coats to ensure proper sealing.


Coverage

  • Smooth Surfaces: 400–450 sq. ft. per gallon

  • Porous Surfaces: 200–300 sq. ft. per gallon


Drying Time (@ 70°F, 50% RH)

  • To Touch: 1 Hour

  • Recoat: 4 Hours
